Revego Bio Fuel Delivery System
Compared to fossil diesel, the viscosity of plant-based biofuels (pure plant oil (PPO) or biodiesel) is significantly higher than fossil diesel at normal temperatures. Only at a temperature of 85° Celsius or above, the viscosity of PPO emulates the viscosity of fossil diesel. Biodiesel and particularly high blends of biodiesel such as B90 or B100 pose the same viscosity problems as PPO.
Biofuel delivery system for diesel engines
Revego Ltd. has developed a Bio Fuel Delivery System that reduces the viscosity of the biofuel through a patented 3-phase heating process, thereby enabling any diesel powered vehicle to run on any combination of diesel, biodiesel (B5 – B100) or PPO (DIN 51605).
The Revego Bio Fuel Delivery System is unique in the sense that it is based on a one-tank system using the PPO or biodiesel itself to heat up the PPO or biodiesel, thereby eliminating the need for other means to lower the viscosity of the PPO or biodiesel like fossil diesel (two-tank system), battery capacity or external electricity. Also, the installation of the Revego Bio Fuel Delivery System does not require any modifications to the diesel engine, the fuel injection system or the control system.
The Revego Bio Fuel Delivery System comprises, in standard installation, the following components:
Immediate benefits – also on fossil diesel
Through the patented 3-phase heating process, the Revego Bio Fuel Delivery System avoids the normal cold starting, whereby the diesel engine is started at a temperature below 85 degrees Celsius. As a result the Revego Bio Fuel Delivery System leads to immediate reductions in fuel consumption and emissions and also a reduced tear and wear on the engine block. These positive environmental and economic benefits can be achieved both with fossil diesel and with biofuels such as PPO or biodiesel.
World First Event
In April 2007, Revego Ltd. hosted a “World First” event at Porto de Pollensa in Mallorca, Spain.
The event included a demonstration of the Revego Bio Fuel Delivery System on two identical Fairline Phantom 46’ 960 hp luxury yachts, each powered by two Volvo Penta 7L diesel engines, where the yacht with the Bio Fuel Delivery System installed ran on PPO alongside the other yacht running on ordinary fossil diesel fuel.
As set out in an article in the June 2007 issue of Motor Boat Monthly, the demonstration showed the superiority of the yacht with the BFDS running on PPO.
Strategic partnership
Algasol Renewables SL is currently pursuing different strategic options in relation to the Revego Bio Fuel Delivery System. The strategic options include exploring partnerships with bus and truck fleet owners for installation of the Revego Bio Fuel Delivery System, thereby providing immediate environmental and economic benefits from avoiding cold starts and preparing the bus and truck fleet for the next generation biofuel era.
