Strategy

Algasol Renewables defines itself as a provider of proprietary photobioreactor technology to cultivate algae biomass. This means that the activities of Algasol Renewables are focused solely on commercializing its low-cost standardized algae photobioreactor rather than covering the entire process from strain selection to harvesting and refining of the algal oil.

A clear rollout plan for commercialization of the technology has been prepared. The research and development team in Algasol Renewables is currently refining the technology in the laboratory and expects in summer 2009 to commence outdoor implementation and scale-up of the technology.

Algasol Renewables has successfully completed a number of “proof of technology” tests in the laboratory. The tests have been conducted with several different reactor materials and under different conditions in order to decide on the final design of the technology. The tests have clearly demonstrated the strong potential of Algasol Renewables’ technology.

Algasol Renewables' objective is to have the world's largest and most cost-efficient operating algae photobioreactor pilot plant operating in 2010.

Active partnership strategy

Considering its focused strategy of commercializing a patent pending photobioreactor technology for cultivating micro algae biomass and in order to maximize speed of the commercialization process, Algasol Renewables pursues an active partnership strategy.

Algasol Renewables sees several interesting business opportunities for its patent pending photobioreactor technology from a partnership perspective. As an example, the manufacturing of the photobioreactor represents a huge opportunity for large polyolefin manufacturers in the world, since each photobioreactor is made of significant amounts of a flexible polymer material such as polyethylene. Also, controlling the technology for cost-competitive cultivation of algae biomass on land, in the desert or at sea will provide significant opportunities within algae plant design/construction, outright licensing/sale and production of end-products, whether being biofuels or fine chemicals.

Algasol Renewables is currently having discussions with several large international corporations that are interested in the business potential of Algasol Renewables’ low-cost photobioreactor technology. The objective is to enter into one strategic partnership with joint ownership of the technology as soon as possible in order to maximize the speed of commercializing Algasol Renewables’ unique flexible polymer photobioreactor.
