Strategy

Algasol Renewables defines itself as a provider of proprietary photobioreactor technology to produce micro algae biomass. This means that the activities of Algasol Renewables are focused solely on commercializing its floating photobioreactor technology rather than covering the entire process from strain selection to harvesting and refining of the algae oil.

A clear plan for commercialization of the technology is in place based on an active partnership strategy.

During 2008 and the first half of 2009 Algasol Renewables successfully completed a number of “proof of technology” tests in the laboratory. The tests were conducted with several different reactor materials and under different conditions in order to decide on the final design of the technology.

Following the successful implementation of an internal aeration system in the second half of 2009 several biomass production experiments were conducted in the laboratory under controlled conditions with good results on both productivity and biomass concentration, while at the same time avoiding biofouling, which is normally associated with closed photobioreactors.

In spring 2010, Algasol Renewables commenced outdoor biomass production and successfully scaled-up its photobioreactor technology to semi-industrial sub-unit size with outstanding results significantly improving both productivity and biomass concentration and continuing not to experience any problems related to biofouling.

Algasol Renewables' objective is to have the world's largest and most cost-efficient operating algae photobioreactor plant.

Active partnership strategy

Considering its focused strategy of commercializing a patent pending photobioreactor technology for production of micro algae biomass and in order to maximize speed of the commercialization process, Algasol Renewables pursues an active partnership strategy.

Algasol Renewables is currently having discussions with several large international corporations that are interested in Algasol Renewables’ floating photobioreactor technology.
